Montgellafrey’s Townhall

Saint François Longchamp

Typical village on the "chemins du Baroque"

The town of Montgellafrey, backing onto the Lauzière massif, stretches in the shadow of the Grand Mas and Gros Vilan as far as the resort of Saint François Longchamp and the Col de la Madeleine where it continues its tourist development.

Many hiking trails through the hamlets bring you to the Lac de la Grande Léchère and its refuge. Nature lovers will appreciate the change of scenery and the magnificent view of the Aiguilles d'Arves and the Etendard glacier.
The houses with legs or columns, architectural peculiarity of the town, surrounded by small wooden attics containing a good number of family memories, are located near the place of the bread oven.
Zoom :
The glass of Saint Théodule: a Saint who drinks wine! A curious custom that continues in Montgellafrey: Sunday after August 15. An inhabitant bearing the Saint's name fills the glass held in his hand by the statue of Saint Theodule above the door of the Church. It is on the occasion of this patronal feast that the "La Colombe" festival committee is organizing the traditional "bread festival" with the essential raffle and sale of bread baked in the communal oven. The day continues with a lively evening in the village square around a convivial meal (by reservation)
