From the Foyer d'accueil du Chaussy, opposite the welcome sign, go straight ahead, the route gradually climbs up the path to the Chalet du Mélèze. This route is shared with the multi-activity pedestrian, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing route. At the Mélèze chalet, turn left to go up a steeper slope. Join the ridge and turn left. Then go straight up along the forest on the right. Be careful not to venture into this part of the forest, the cliffs are close with the risk of falls. At Croix de la Chal, the return to the Col du Chaussy takes the same route.

Variation: To make a loop and change the route for the return, 200 m after the Chalet du Mélèze, leave the path and turn left into the meadow. Go straight down to reach the cross-country ski trail. Cross it and go down towards Bergein. When you reach the bend in the cross-country ski trail, turn right, go up the path which leads into a clearing, turn right, go up under the power line. Follow the route that climbs towards the Col du Chaussy along the Libertour stream. (+ 30 min and +65 m of D + / classic route).
